Kayaking from Banff to Canmore -- July 18 2011
Tuesday, 19 July 2011 | categories: Alberta, photos, travel, kayakingMy Grand Canyon guide, Alex, took me river kayaking on the Bow River from Banff, just below the falls, all the way through Canmore to the highway bridge. We used inflatable kayaks which are both very comfortable and very different from the sea kayaks that I'm used to. And it's also different being on fast moving water.
We covered the 17.1 miles in under 2 1/2 hours, thanks to paddling much of the way. One could easily just float along and not paddle very often and then the trip would take closer to 3 hours. But as a sea kayaker, it's hard to get used to not paddling!
What a beautiful trip!
