Estes Park Half Marathon 2011

| categories: photos, half marathon, Estes Park, runwalk

I ran 2:13:03, a personal best in this, my 20th Half Marathon. This is the 4th year in a row doing this event. The weather this year was just like it was in 2008 and 2009 - sunny and warm.

I used the Jeff Galloway run/walk method, mostly sticking to running for 3 minutes and walking for 1 minute, adjusting sometimes for the hills and water stations. I often extended running down the hills. My slowest mile was 11:10 and my fastest was 9:01, which was the last mile.

Here is the GPS track, at Every Trail, as usual. My tracks from 2009 and 2010 are also at Every Trail.

I took my camera along to give some idea of how beautiful this route is.

Walked in 3:06:04, unofficially, or 14:11/mile. Not only a new course this year, but the race is also on Sunday, like almost every other long race out there.

Some photos.

Run/walked in 2:19:30, or 10:38/mile

This is my third time at this event. The first two times it was clear and sunny, with great views to all the mountains. Today it was cold, 41°F, with a light but steady rain falling from before the start of the race until well after I finished.

Adjusting for the 7,500 foot elevation of Estes Park, my time is roughly equivalent to a 2:10:00 at sea level.

Walked in 2:39:28, or 12:09/mile. This is 5 seconds slower than my best walking time ever, but that was 6 years ago. This is my best half marathon walking performance, at 61.2%, according to the WMA 2006 Age Graded Tables.
